PeekView — Fast Image Browser for macOS
Last updated: January 28, 2026
PeekView does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Your photos stay on your device.
Overview
PeekView is designed with privacy as a core principle. The app operates entirely on your local device with no network connectivity required for its core functionality.
Data We Don't Collect
PeekView does not collect:
- Personal information
- Usage analytics or statistics
- Crash reports (unless you choose to send them via Apple)
- Photo metadata or content
- File names or folder paths
- Any data transmitted to external servers
Local Data Storage
PeekView stores the following data locally on your Mac:
- Thumbnail cache: Cached thumbnail images are stored in your Mac's standard Caches folder (
~/Library/Caches/Peek/) to speed up repeat visits to folders. You can clear this cache at any time from within the app. - Preferences: Your settings (thumbnail size, quality preference, favorite folders) are stored locally using macOS standard preferences.
This data never leaves your device and is fully under your control.
Photo Access
PeekView accesses photos only in folders you explicitly select using the standard macOS folder picker. The app:
- Only reads image files for thumbnail generation
- Never modifies your original photos (rotation changes EXIF data only)
- Never uploads photos anywhere
- Never accesses photos without your explicit folder selection
Network Access
PeekView does not require an internet connection. The app may access your local network only if you browse images on a network-attached storage (NAS) device that you select.
Third-Party Services
PeekView does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Children's Privacy
PeekView does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
